ABOUT
I am Sébastien Pridmore, a Franco-Swiss painter and muralist based in Napa Valley, California. My work draws its strength from an approach that is both experimental and committed, rooted in the search for natural materials and respect for the environment. For more than ten years, I have developed a unique technique using natural pigments derived from food products, plants, minerals, and organic materials such as marble or charcoal.
Created with natural pigments—including coffee, charcoal, cocoa, and precious stones like lapis lazuli and malachite—my paintings also incorporate, more recently, marble used as a pictorial material. The result of personal research, this work revisits ancient materials and integrates them into a resolutely contemporary practice. These pigments, whose traces can be found from the caves of Lascaux to the frescoes of Ancient Egypt, lend each canvas a historical depth and place my work within a millennia-old continuum between tradition and creation.
Inspired as much by the grand narratives of history as by contemporary issues, I explore the dialogue between collective memory and artistic expression. My work unfolds both in the intimacy of my studio and in public spaces, through monumental murals and live painting performances that push the limits of my art.
My career includes numerous public commissions and participation in major events, notably the Art Capital Salon at the Grand Palais Éphémère in Paris, where I performed live in 2024. I have also completed a public mural for the city of Bussigny in Switzerland and collaborated with Michelin-starred chefs, including the renowned chef Anton Mosimann, OBE. One of my paintings is part of the collection of the Mosimann Culinary Museum Collection, located in Le Bouveret, Switzerland.
I had the honor of being awarded an art grant from the Canton of Vaud in recognition of the originality of my immersive approach, particularly for a project combining painting and virtual reality, inviting the viewer to literally step into the world of the painting through a 360° experience, a project blending traditional art and innovative technology.
As a passionate educator, I have also taught visual arts for several years, as well as culinary painting at César Ritz College in Le Bouveret, combining teaching with creative practice.
Since moving to California, I have continued my artistic commitment through several mural projects in the region. I am also involved in cultural initiatives of heritage significance, notably by participating in a fundraising effort initiated by the French Consulate in San Francisco, linked to the restoration of L’Hermione.
